The oldest operating movie theater in Brazil – Cine Olímpia, in Belém, a city considered to be the “doorway” to the Amazon Region – was chosen as the venue for the showing of the Amazônia Eterna (Eternal Amazon Region) documentary. This is the first movie project by Tudo agency, a Grupo ABC company. (Grupo ABC is one of the 20 largest communications groups worldwide.) The film shows that it is possible to reconcile economic development with the environment.

It shows viewers an immense Amazon Rainforest through shots emerging from the rivers and flying over the continent-sized region. The idea of showing successful sustainable development projects in the Amazon Region aroused the interest of Vale, a giant mining company with a strong presence in Northern Brazil. The film project, budgeted at R$ 3.8 million (nearly US$ 2 million), was made possible by Vale.

It also attracted the interest of the GoodPlanet Foundation. This entity is responsible for The GoodPlanet Film Festival, held alongside Rio+20 – the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, taking place in Rio de Janeiro between June 13 and 22.
