The final version of the Yahoo Contributor Network is going to be launched within two or three weeks
Yahoo will be launching the final version of the Yahoo Contributor Network, which already exists in the United States, in Brazil in two or three weeks. The beta version was released on Monday, July 16. It is an open news publishing platform to which anyone can contribute articles about topics previously chosen by the portal’s editorial team.
The great innovation that the project is bringing to the Brazilian media industry is that contributors will be paid for producing news content. Yahoo Brasil worked one year on the network, which is also going to be introduced in the U.K.
The compensation model will consist of an “upfront amount” (not revealed) plus R$ 1 (about US$ 0.50) per every 1,000 views. “Our most popular news stories receive millions of views,” points out Rafael Alvez, Yahoo’s editor-in-chief.
Alvez believes that one of the great advantages of the Contributor Network is that it will allow providing regional content. “We’ll have news about different Brazilian cities, which gives us a competitive edge,” believes Alvez. He adds that this is Yahoo’s largest project this year and it will reinforce the company’s positioning, which focuses on content.
Special content aimed at professional and international companies who are interested in the Brazilian market. Brazil has gained great prominence in recent years and will host two great events (World Cup 2014 and Olympics 2016) that can be great business opportunities for global companies. The channel consists of two areas. The first is Brazilian Market Overview with general information on demographics, consumption, the Brazilian communication market, the main players in the areas of media and agencies. And the second area is Hot News, with weekly update of top stories of the week that have relevance internationally.
